_masako

October 24, 2007

today i fell in love with masako. we met at a bus stop, where a girl with a petition asked me to sign. so i did. i felt the sudden need to get involved. filling out the form with a red pen, i gave her details a wiser person probably wouldn’t have. standing on the side, masako watched. she wore dark jeans and a white scarf, her thick black hair pulled by gravity into a perfect straight line. i imagined our life together and how beautiful she would look lying naked in my bed. her thin body too white for me to touch. she spoke japanese and french, i speak other languages. when the bus came she got on it. i waited for the next one.

i just picked anna kareninna off the cheap classics shelf in barns and nobles. it has one of the best first sentences i’ve read. happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in it’s own way. i’m not even sure i want to continue reading the book, one good sentence is all you can ask for. besides, it’s so discouragingly fat.

the second book i bought is leonard cohens “let us compare mythologies”. his first book of poems, published when he was 22. conclusions: 1. there’s a reason it’s been out of print for the past 40 years. (sorry jikan, my love for you is true, but not unconditional) and 2. i should not be allowed in bookstores when i’m trying to save money. (total spent: 32$ i don’t actually have)

I’m back in a city large enough to cry in

loud enough to write in

fast enough to live in

the woven wallpaper makes me think the whole world is covered

how naked can I get before I disappear
